The Telephone Exchange
Melbourne, 1952
Nancy has fled her home in Ballarat to live in inner-city Fitzroy. Her fiancé is an Italian salesman for Continental Chicken Noodle Soup who she has not heard from in over two months. Alma, the eldest of eight, lives in Collingwood and is obsessed with a Russian Countess who lives at the end of her street. Doris wants a peony satin evening gown, an Australian husband with prospects and a Sunbeam Mix-Master “the one mother will like best!” Miss Frigel, who knows the importance of being ‘presentable’, is in cahoots with the Archangel Michael.
The Telephone Exchange is available from Australian Plays Transform.
